Budgam, July 15: Kashmir’s literary community is mourning the loss of Shahid Budgami, a revered poet and cultural figure, who passed away at his ancestral home in Budgam on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 90.
Born Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Budgami was celebrated for his romantic and lyrical poetry, often featured on Radio Kashmir Srinagar and sung by iconic Kashmiri vocalists. His verses, rich in classical elegance and emotional depth, have left a lasting imprint on generations.In the 1970s, he entered cinema as Assistant Director in Shair-e-Kashmir Mehjoor, the second Kashmiri-language feature film, where he worked alongside legends Balraj Sahni and Prabhat Mukherjee.
