SRINAGAR, April 19: In response to persistent rainfall and the resulting waterlogging across parts of Srinagar, Dr. Owais Ahmed (IAS), Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), conducted a comprehensive inspection of the city’s dewatering operations on Friday.

Accompanied by the Superintending Engineer of the Drainage Circle, along with Executive Engineers and other senior officials, the Commissioner evaluated the preparedness and performance of drainage systems in several flood-prone localities.

Dr. Owais visited key locations to assess on-ground response and operational readiness. He inspected both stationary dewatering stations and Mobile Pumping Units, which are essential tools for tackling urban flooding in real time.

The inspection also included a review of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which allows for real-time monitoring of drainage infrastructure. This system enhances the efficiency of water clearance efforts, particularly during heavy rains.

While appreciating the dedication of field personnel working in adverse weather conditions, the Commissioner stressed the importance of teamwork and continuous monitoring. He also appealed to the public to avoid dumping waste into drains, as blockages caused by littering often worsen the waterlogging situation.

Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and are encouraged to report any emergency or flood-related concerns to the SMC’s 24×7 Control Room.
