SRINAGAR: MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday visited Ujala Hospital to check on those injured in last week’s blast at Nowgam police station.
Speaking to reporters, he questioned what he called serious security lapses inside the station and demanded a transparent, time-bound investigation. He said sensitive material should never be stored in a way that endangers lives. “Responsibility must be fixed. If it was an accident, prove it—that is justice to the victims,” he said.
Ruhullah urged authorities to identify and hold those responsible to account and make the probe findings public. “If it wasn’t a militant attack, the investigation must clarify that,” he added.
He said such incidents raise concerns that ultimately fall under the Lieutenant Governor’s purview. Without naming parties, he accused the BJP of politicising similar incidents in the past but maintained that he would not do so.
Ruhullah also criticised punitive actions taken before the investigation’s completion. “Under which law was the accused’s home demolished before the probe was over?” he asked.
He reiterated that only a fair and transparent inquiry can ensure accountability and prevent innocent people from being targeted.
