SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma on Saturday criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of prioritising foreign tours over governance and public issues in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing reporters, Sharma described Omar Abdullah as a “tourist-in-chief” and alleged that the Chief Minister had been absent from the public sphere for the past 10 days while people continued to struggle with problems such as inadequate electricity, water supply, and healthcare services.

He further said that Omar Abdullah, who holds charge of 18 departments including Finance, Power Development, Tourism, Revenue, and General Administration, could not effectively manage such a large administrative portfolio while frequently travelling abroad.

Sharma also referred to an earlier instance when the Chief Minister had planned a visit to Paris amid disruptions caused by highway closures that affected Kashmiri apple growers. He claimed the visit was cancelled following public criticism.

The BJP leader added that the party is considering filing a “missing report” at Ram Munshi Bagh police station over the Chief Minister’s absence and is consulting legal experts on the possibility of filing a Habeas Corpus petition seeking his appearance before the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
