SRINAGAR: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid, passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences late last night after a prolonged illness. He was 85.
He was initially admitted to the Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar and later shifted to SMHS Hospital as his condition worsened. On May 2, 2026, he was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi, where he remained under treatment until his demise.
The death was confirmed through a social media account linked to “Er Rashid”.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the NIA in connection with a 2017 terror-funding case. In late April, the Delhi High Court granted him one-week interim bail to visit his ailing father before he was taken back into custody after the bail period ended.
