Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday announced that Gulmarg is poised to become a premier destination for heli-skiing and adventure tourism. However, he stated that the government is currently unable to confirm new dates for the Khelo India Winter Games.
The second leg of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025, initially scheduled for earlier this month in Gulmarg, was postponed due to insufficient snowfall. Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, “The administration is closely monitoring the snowfall situation. Experts from the Ski Federation will assess the slopes in the coming days, and if conditions permit, the games could be held in the first week of March.”
He emphasized that no official announcement can be made at this stage. “If we receive adequate snowfall, the games will proceed in early March. Otherwise, with summer approaching, it may not be feasible,” he added.
Abdullah also highlighted the recent launch of a helicopter service, which he said would enhance heli-skiing opportunities and offer tourists a unique aerial experience. “Gulmarg will soon be recognized as a leading destination for heli-adventures, complementing its renowned Gondola rides,” he remarked.
