Washington: U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff was set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday, carrying an early-stage U.S. peace proposal aimed at ending the nearly four-year war in Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to Ireland as part of his ongoing tour of European supporters.
With earlier efforts stalled, President Donald Trump has begun sending senior officials to push forward his peace initiative. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will join the closed-door meeting with Putin and Witkoff.
The diplomacy has so far unfolded on two tracks: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held talks with Ukrainian officials, while Witkoff now heads to Moscow. Zelenskyy said he met Tuesday with the Ukrainian team that recently returned from negotiations with U.S. representatives in Florida. Rubio described those discussions as productive but noted that more progress is needed
