Srinagar, Nov 25: Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday expressed confidence that tourism in Kashmir will soon rebound fully, with visitor sentiment returning to normal.
During a visit to Srinagar’s historic Lal Chowk, Kataria said the landmark has played a significant role in India’s journey. He noted that hoisting the national flag at Lal Chowk was once considered a major challenge. Recalling the notable yatra led by Murli Manohar Joshi and Narendra Modi from Kanyakumari to Lal Chowk, Kataria said he had also participated in that journey. “Many people were stopped along the way, but those who reached Lal Chowk upheld the pride of the national flag,” he said.
Kataria added that he was delighted to see the Tricolour flying proudly at Lal Chowk today and praised the people of Kashmir for showing respect towards it.
Speaking about the tourism sector, the Governor said Jammu & Kashmir has witnessed record tourist arrivals in recent years, significantly boosting local businesses and the economy. He acknowledged that recent incidents in Pahalgam and Delhi briefly impacted tourist sentiment, according to KNS, but emphasised that the effects were temporary.
He expressed confidence that tourism in Jammu & Kashmir will soon regain momentum, noting that people from across the country aspire to visit Lal Chowk because of its historical importance.
