Pahalgam, April 22 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has left his official residence and is on his way to Pahalgam, where terrorists earlier today opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran area. The attack has left several people feared dead and many injured, sending shockwaves across the region.

The Chief Minister’s sudden departure underscores the gravity of the situation. Sources within the administration confirmed that Abdullah will personally assess the security scenario on the ground, meet with officials overseeing the counter-insurgency operation, and likely visit the injured and families of the victims.

This swift response comes amid growing concern over the safety of tourists in the Valley, especially as Pahalgam had been considered a relatively safe and popular destination. The attack has not only raised security alarms but also cast a shadow over the ongoing tourism season, which had seen a steady revival in recent months.

Upon reaching Pahalgam, Omar Abdullah is expected to hold a high-level review meeting with senior police and civil administration officers. He is also likely to make a public statement addressing the tragedy and reassuring both residents and tourists of the government’s commitment to safety and justice.
