SRINAGAR, May 1: Police in Bandipora have taken six people into custody for allegedly spreading misleading and fabricated content about police and security forces on social media platforms, following the April 24 encounter in Kulnar Bazipora Ajas.

In a statement shared with the news agency JKNS, police said they had received reliable inputs indicating that false information was being circulated online. “A formal case has been registered against the social media users responsible for spreading these baseless claims,” the statement read.

The police described the act as a serious breach of national security, with the potential to incite unrest in the region. An FIR (No. 71/25) has been lodged at the Bandipora Police Station under Section 152 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(f) of the Information Technology Act. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

The individuals arrested in connection with the case are:

  • Ajaz Ahmad Gojar Baniya, son of Zulf Deen Gojar Baniya
  • Zafran Ahmad Gojar, son of Shah Zaman Gojar (both from Bazipora Ajas)
  • Sartaj Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Subhan Malik of Malikpora Rakh-Hajin
  • Bilal Ahmad Hurra, son of Abdul Hamid Hurra of Gundjahahgir Hajin
  • Altaf Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Jabbar Wani of Baharabad Hajin
  • Bilal Ahmad Parray, son of Abdul Majeed Parray of Khose Mohalla

Police have urged the public to exercise caution while using digital platforms. “Those misusing social media to spread disinformation will face strict legal action,” the statement warned.
