Srinagar, Aug 17: At least several people lost their lives after heavy rains triggered massive landslides in different parts of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Rescue teams have been pressed into service as authorities continue to search for survivors trapped under debris.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep grief over the tragedy, describing it as “mind-numbing.” Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he said: “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the devastating rain-triggered landslides in several areas of Kathua. The tragedy is mind-numbing.”
The LG further said that he had briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the situation. “Rescue and relief operations are underway with the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police and administration working in coordination to save lives,” he added.
