NEW DELHI, May 8 – In the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with secretaries of various Union ministries, underscoring the importance of sustained alertness, seamless communication, and institutional coordination. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to national security, operational readiness, and the safety of citizens.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the meeting focused on bolstering civil defence mechanisms, countering misinformation and fake news, and securing critical infrastructure across the country.

Ministries were directed to ensure close coordination with state authorities and grassroots institutions to strengthen collective response mechanisms. The meeting also reviewed the nation’s preparedness and the level of inter-ministerial coordination amid recent national security developments.

“The Prime Minister called for continued alertness, institutional synergy, and clear communication as the nation navigates a sensitive period,” the PMO statement said. “He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national security, operational preparedness, and citizen safety.”

The meeting took place a day after the Indian armed forces carried out precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke. The strikes, part of ‘Operation Sindoor’, came two weeks after the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

During the review, Prime Minister Modi assessed the preparedness of ministries to respond to the evolving situation. Secretaries were instructed to conduct a thorough evaluation of their ministry’s operations, with a specific focus on readiness, emergency response capabilities, and internal communication protocols.

The statement noted that secretaries outlined their plans under a ‘whole-of-government’ approach and have identified actionable steps in response to the ongoing conflict. Ministries are working to fortify internal processes to ensure resilience and continuity in all critical functions.

The meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, senior officials from the PMO, and secretaries from key ministries including Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Power, Health, and Telecommunications.
