Srinagar, – In a recent statement, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti expressed deep concern over an incident in Jammu and Kashmir that she believes undermines the region’s unique cultural fabric, widely known as “Kashmiriyat.”

“We Kashmiris are ashamed of this incident. This is an attack on the whole Jammu and Kashmir,” Mufti said, condemning the event that has sparked widespread outrage across the region. She emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging the Indian Home Minister to take immediate action to identify and punish those responsible for the incident.

The term “Kashmiriyat,” which has long symbolized the shared values of tolerance, hospitality, and peaceful coexistence among the people of Kashmir, was notably referenced by Mufti in her remarks. She expressed disappointment that the region’s collective identity is now under threat as a result of this incident, which she claims reflects poorly on the Kashmiri people in front of the entire nation.

In her statement, Mufti further stressed that the attack was not only an affront to the victims but also to the very ethos of Jammu and Kashmir as a whole. “Kashmiriyat is there, but we are ashamed in front of the whole nation,” she added, pointing out that the repercussions of such incidents extend far beyond the immediate harm caused.

The PDP leader’s call for accountability has raised questions about the broader implications of this incident on the region’s social and political climate. As Kashmir grapples with its unique challenges and national perceptions, Mufti’s comments shed light on the urgency for justice and the restoration of trust within the community.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is yet to release further details regarding the incident in question, but the political ramifications of the PDP’s condemnation suggest that this issue is set to dominate regional discourse in the coming days.

This development is likely to spark further discussions around the relationship between Kashmir and the Indian state, as well as the continued importance of Kashmiriyat in maintaining the region’s distinct cultural and social identity.
