Gurez, Aug 8: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday reiterated his government’s commitment to the holistic development of Gurez, calling the remote border region a “top priority” for infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism initiatives.
Addressing residents at the National Tribal Festival in Chorwan, the CM said focused efforts were underway to improve mobile connectivity, promote sustainable tourism, and address long-pending local grievances.
Highlighting Gurez’s “immense natural beauty and cultural richness,” Abdullah said tourism expansion would not only preserve the region’s heritage and environment but also create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. He praised the “peace-loving nature” of Gurez’s people, noting that their resilience and harmony “deserve recognition and reward through inclusive development.”
During his visit, the CM toured stalls displaying tribal crafts and traditional foods, witnessed folk dance performances, and felicitated women-led self-help groups. He also flagged off a trekking group and inaugurated a polo match, underscoring Gurez’s potential as a hub for both adventure and cultural tourism.
