SRINAGAR: In a major boost for Kashmir’s apple growers, Indian Railways will launch a daily dedicated parcel train from September 13, connecting Badgam with Adarsh Nagar, Delhi.
Each train, initially with eight wagons carrying up to 23 metric tonnes of apples, will depart Badgam at 6:15 AM and reach Delhi by 5:00 AM the next day, ensuring fresh morning deliveries. More wagons may be added based on demand.
Growers and traders can book online through the FOIS portal. Indian Railways has also allowed parcel attachments at intermediate stations to meet varying needs.
Railway officials are working with the horticulture department, growers’ associations, and traders for smooth operations. The move follows last month’s arrival of a 21-wagon cement freight train in Anantnag, further integrating Kashmir into the national freight network.
