SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Candidates from all major political parties, including the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed their nomination papers on Monday for the upcoming Budgam by-election, marking the final day for submissions.
National Conference candidate Aga Syed Mehmood submitted his papers in the presence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who personally accompanied him to the office of the Returning Officer.
Peoples Democratic Party’s Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi also filed his nomination papers, accompanied by PDP leader and MLA Waheed Rehman Parra.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Aga Syed Mohsin submitted his nomination papers, joined by the Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma.
The Budgam by-election is scheduled to be held on November 11, while the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
The by-poll was necessitated after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vacated the Budgam seat, opting to retain his traditional stronghold Ganderbal following the 2024 Assembly elections.
