ETAH/FIROZABAD (UP), May 2: At least three people, including a 17-year-old girl, lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in separate lightning strike incidents across Uttar Pradesh on a stormy Friday morning.
Among the deceased were two labourers engaged in a road construction project under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Firozabad district. In a separate incident in Etah’s Bhagwantpur village, a family attempting to cover a haystack with a tarpaulin to shield it from the rain was struck by lightning.
Seventeen-year-old Diksha died on the spot, while her younger sister Sapna sustained severe burn injuries. Their father and brother were also injured in the incident.
“While they were working, lightning struck suddenly, hitting both sisters. Diksha died instantly, and Sapna remains in critical condition,” said Aman, a relative of the family.
