NEW DELHI, May 8 — Air travel was significantly disrupted on Thursday as nearly 90 flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport — including five international departures — were cancelled by various airlines.
The widespread cancellations come in the wake of heightened security measures following Operation Sindoor, a series of retaliatory strikes carried out by Indian armed forces on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was launched in response to last month’s deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of at least 26 individuals.
As part of the security protocol, around 27 airports across the country have been temporarily shut, forcing airlines to suspend numerous scheduled services. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before travelling to the airport.
