Srinagar, May 30: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, on Friday inaugurated the third edition of the Kashmir Literature Festival in Srinagar and emphasized the vital role of writers in shaping positive societal discourse and preserving historical truth.
Addressing participants at the literary event, the Lieutenant Governor urged writers to use fiction, non-fiction, and other creative forms to inspire people and contribute constructively to society.
“Writers have a unique responsibility to shape positive discourse through their work. A writer’s craft lives not only in words but also in the pulse of the people,” Sinha said.
Highlighting the importance of cultural and historical consciousness, the Lieutenant Governor called for the eradication of colonial-era mindsets and stressed the need to present an accurate account of history to the world.
“We must erase every trace of the colonial mindset and ensure that people abroad do not distort our history and present to serve their own narratives,” he said.
Sinha asserted that writers play a crucial role in correcting historical inaccuracies and communicating the truth to global readers. He encouraged authors, scholars, and literary enthusiasts to use their platforms to promote authentic narratives rooted in facts and cultural heritage.
The Kashmir Literature Festival brings together writers, poets, academics, and literary enthusiasts from across the region and beyond, providing a platform for discussions on literature, culture, history, and contemporary issues.
The event witnessed the participation of prominent authors, intellectuals, students, and members of the literary community, who engaged in discussions on the evolving role of literature in society.
