SRINAGAR: In a landmark development, nearly 800 Army soldiers arrived in Srinagar by train on Wednesday, marking the first complete rail journey from Delhi to the Kashmir Valley following the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).

The soldiers, returning from leave, had been stranded at various locations due to widespread flight cancellations to Jammu and Kashmir. According to defence and security officials, the personnel boarded a train in Delhi that travelled to Katra, where they switched to another train bound for Srinagar. The Katra–Srinagar segment of the journey was completed in about four hours.

This marks the first seamless rail movement of its kind into the Kashmir Valley since the completion of the strategically significant USBRL project, which has, for the first time, integrated the region with the rest of India via rail.( Input from The Print)
