Srinagar, Aug 8: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra will launch a hunger strike in Srinagar on Friday (August 9) to press for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. District Congress leaders are expected to join the protest.
Party officials said Karra will begin the strike in Srinagar along with district leaders and later travel to Jammu, where he will continue the agitation on Sunday (August 10). The Jammu leg of the protest will be held at Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s Statue near Tawi Bridge.
The Congress has been demanding the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which was downgraded to a Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
