Srinagar, Aug 10: Police in Anantnag have detained a repeat offender accused of selling counterfeit gold and booked him under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
The accused, Showkat Ahmad Zargar, son of Noor Mohammad Zargar, a resident of New Colony, Bijbehara (currently in Shamsipora), has been shifted to Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu.
According to police, multiple FIRs — including FIR No. 06/2023, FIR No. 223/2024, and FIR Nos. 149 & 150 of 2025 — were registered against him at Police Station Bijbehara following complaints from victims. Tests at the Hallmarking Centre in Srinagar confirmed the seized items were fake.
Police urged the public to remain alert against such fraudulent activities.
