Jammu, Feb 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday announced that 594 lecturer posts have been referred to recruitment agencies to address the acute shortage of teachers in the Union Territory.

Presenting the Budget for 2026–27 in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the move reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the education system and ensuring timely appointments.

In another key announcement, CM Omar said Jammu and Kashmir will host an International Film Festival in 2026, calling it a major step towards promoting the region as a global hub for cinema and creative industries.

He said the Budget focuses on transforming J&K into a modern, progressive, and economically vibrant region by building a business-friendly ecosystem that encourages innovation and investment.

The Chief Minister also noted that the government is actively engaging with the Centre to resolve fiscal challenges, underscoring a collaborative approach to financial planning.
