SRINAGAR, June 12: In preparation for the upcoming International Yoga Day, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review and streamline arrangements across the Kashmir Division. The celebrations are scheduled to be held on June 21, in alignment with the national event led by the Prime Minister of India.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners, Senior Superintendents of Police, and representatives from key departments including AYUSH, Health, School and Higher Education, Sports Council, Rural Development, Tourism, and the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
Addressing the officials, Bidhuri emphasized the importance of active participation and close coordination with the national programme. He directed authorities to ensure the live streaming of the Prime Minister’s Yoga session at SKICC and in all government degree colleges to encourage maximum public engagement.
The main Yoga Day event in the Valley will take place at SKICC from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, where approximately 5,000 participants are expected. The AYUSH Department has been tasked with arranging Yoga mats and T-shirts for attendees. Departments have also been directed to ensure seamless transportation, adequate drinking water supply, mobile toilet facilities, and post-event refreshments.
Deputy Commissioners briefed the Divisional Commissioner on district-level preparations, which include live streaming of the national event and Yoga sessions at prominent tourist spots and public venues.
Acknowledging the possibility of inclement weather, Bidhuri instructed officials to devise contingency plans to ensure that celebrations proceed smoothly at all designated locations.
