Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal and Senior Superintendent of Police Shafket Hussain on Monday conducted a thorough inspection of the Mughal Road, which has become a vital alternative route for traffic movement following the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) due to landslides.
The inspection comes in the wake of severe disruptions caused by continuous landslides along NH-44, leaving commuters stranded and affecting the transportation of essential supplies to the Kashmir Valley. With the Mughal Road now acting as a lifeline for vehicular movement between the Jammu region and the Valley, authorities are closely monitoring its condition to ensure safety and smooth passage.
Officials assessed the road’s readiness and directed concerned departments to remain alert and responsive to any weather-induced challenges. The administration also appealed to travelers to stay updated with traffic advisories before planning their journeys.
The Mughal Road, which connects Poonch and Rajouri districts with Shopian in south Kashmir, often plays a crucial role in maintaining connectivity during highway closures, especially in times of natural disruptions.
