Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said he spoke to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar regarding the evolving situation in Iran and the safety of people from the Union Territory currently in the country.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the External Affairs Minister shared his assessment of the ground situation and briefed him on the plans being worked out by the Ministry of External Affairs. Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude for the assurance that all necessary steps would be taken to safeguard the interests and lives of students and other residents from Jammu and Kashmir who are presently in Iran.

The Chief Minister’s outreach comes amid growing concerns among families in J&K whose children are studying or working in Iran, as the regional situation continues to evolve. The Jammu and Kashmir government, he indicated, remains in close coordination with the Centre to ensure the safety and well-being of its people abroad.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and any further developments will be communicated as required.
