SRINAGAR, Apr 24: A soldier of the Indian Army lost his life during a gunbattle with militants in the Dudu area of Basantgarh, Udhampur, on Thursday.
The Army’s Knight Corps shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the firefight broke out during a joint anti-militancy operation launched along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, following specific intelligence inputs.
“Contact was established with militants, leading to a fierce exchange of fire,” the Army said in the post.
Tragically, one soldier sustained serious injuries during the initial phase of the encounter and later succumbed, despite all efforts to save him. “One of our #Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed despite best medical efforts,” the post read.
Security forces have since dispatched additional troops to the area, and the operation remains ongoing.
More updates are expected as the situation develops.
