Srinagar, Sept 7: Restoration work on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) continues to remain suspended following relentless rainfall along the Banihal–Udhampur stretch, officials said on Sunday.
The heavy showers at Bani Nallah and Tharad have severely hampered clearance and repair efforts. Officials said that the weather conditions have made it unsafe to resume restoration. Work will restart once the rains subside.
The crucial highway, which serves as the lifeline connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, has been witnessing frequent disruptions due to landslides and waterlogging. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel until further updates are issued.
