Sep 7: A fire broke out at the top of a government building in Kyiv after Russia launched a wave of drone and missile strikes on the capital, killing three people, including an infant, and injuring 18. Several residential buildings across the city were destroyed or set ablaze, with falling drone debris sparking additional fires.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the assault began with drones followed by missile strikes, describing it as a deliberate attack on civilians. An elderly woman also died in a bomb shelter in the Darnytskyi district, while a pregnant woman was among those hospitalized.
Dozens of explosions hit other Ukrainian cities, including Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, and Odesa, damaging power supplies, civilian infrastructure, and apartment blocks.
In retaliation, Ukraine struck the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region, inflicting heavy fire damage and disrupting energy flows to Hungary and Slovakia. Ukrainian officials said the attack aimed to weaken Russia’s war effort.
Moscow claimed its forces destroyed 69 Ukrainian drones overnight and said it launched 805 drones and 13 missiles on Ukraine. Both sides continue to deny targeting civilians.
