LONDON – The British government on Monday announced sanctions against a Sweden-based criminal organization and its leader, accusing them of involvement in attacks across Europe targeting Israeli and Jewish individuals on behalf of the Iranian regime.
The UK has imposed an asset freeze on the group known as the Foxtrot Network, and both an asset freeze and travel ban on its alleged leader, Rawa Majid. According to British officials, the group has played a key role in violent activities linked to Iran’s overseas operations.
“By sanctioning this criminal network and its leader, Rawa Majid, we are responding to their role in orchestrating violence against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe on Iran’s behalf,” UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in a statement. “The UK will not tolerate these threats.”
Lammy did not provide specific details about the incidents linked to the group. The Iranian embassy in London has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the sanctions.
In a related move earlier this year, the United States also sanctioned both the Foxtrot Network and Majid in March.
Since 2022, British authorities say they have responded to more than 20 Iran-directed plots involving attempts to kidnap or assassinate British citizens or individuals residing in the UK whom Tehran considers a threat.
Last October, Reuters reported that Iran had been actively involved in a surge of attempted kidnappings and attacks across Europe and the United States.
In March, the UK announced it would require all political activities by the Iranian state within its borders to be registered under stricter oversight, citing increased hostile behavior from Tehran.
