Kabul, Sept 1: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Monday, killing over 500 people and injuring more than 1,000, officials said. The epicenter was near Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, where homes collapsed and many residents were trapped under rubble.Rescue efforts were slowed by blocked roads and rough terrain. Health ministry spokesperson Sharafat Zaman warned that the toll could rise as teams continue operations. The quake was followed by a 4.7 aftershock at a depth of 140 km.Entire villages were flattened, with some reporting dozens of deaths. Mild tremors were also felt in parts of India, including Delhi, without damage.
