Srinagar, Aug 8 : In his Friday sermon at the historic Jama Masjid, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq expressed shock over the seizure of over 3,500 kilograms of rotten, unlabelled, and possibly unlawful meat by the Food and Drugs Administration from various parts of Kashmir.
Calling the act zulm—a grave injustice—he said feeding people haram or harmful food was a betrayal of public trust and a violation of religious, social, and legal principles. He demanded strict punishment for those involved and questioned how such malpractice went unchecked for so long, criticising regulatory authorities for their failure.
Mirwaiz urged the government to enforce mandatory labelling, verified cold storage details, and halal certification for all packed meat. He also voiced concern over doubts about the meat’s origin, warning it could even be carrion, strictly prohibited in Islam.
“This is not just a health violation, but an assault on our religious values,” he said, stressing the need for societal introspection to curb greed and moral decay. He commended vigilant citizens for helping expose the scandal.
