New Delhi, July 1:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday marked the eighth anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by calling it a “landmark reform” that has transformed India’s economic landscape.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said GST has significantly reduced the compliance burden for businesses and enhanced the Ease of Doing Business, particularly benefiting small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Eight years since it was introduced, GST stands out as a landmark reform that has reshaped India’s economic landscape,” he stated. “By reducing the compliance burden, it has greatly improved the Ease of Doing Business, particularly for small and medium enterprises.”
Highlighting its broader economic impact, Modi said GST has served as a powerful engine for economic growth and helped foster cooperative federalism by involving states as equal partners in building an integrated national market.
