NEW DELHI, June 3: Leaders from 16 opposition parties have come together to demand a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor. In a joint letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the INDIA bloc emphasized the need for urgent parliamentary deliberation on the matter.

The demand was raised during a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders held in the national capital on Tuesday. Representatives from key parties—including the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT)—participated in the discussions.

Senior leaders such as Jairam Ramesh and Deependra Hooda (Congress), Derek O’Brien (TMC), Ramgopal Yadav (SP), Manoj Jha (RJD), and Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena-UBT) attended the meeting and signed the letter to the Prime Minister.

Although the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) could not attend the meeting due to the birth anniversary of party founder M. Karunanidhi, it has endorsed the letter. Other signatories include the National Conference, CPI(M), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Communist Party of India (CPI), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Kerala Congress, MDMK, and CPI(ML) Liberation.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), while absent from the meeting, has expressed its support for the demand and is expected to submit a separate letter to the Prime Minister.

Notably, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) is not among the parties backing the call for a special session.

The opposition has been pressing for a parliamentary debate since the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The issue was also raised during an all-party meeting convened to brief lawmakers on Operation Sindoor.

The Trinamool Congress has proposed that the special session be held in June, after multi-party delegations currently visiting foreign nations to present India’s stance against terrorism return home.
