New Delhi, June 3:
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday asserted that the losses incurred during Operation Sindoor were secondary to its successful outcome. He was addressing a gathering at Savitribai Phule Pune University during a lecture on ‘Future Wars and Warfare’.
“Losses are not important. What matters is the outcome of the operation,” General Chauhan said, reiterating remarks that have recently sparked political controversy. His comments were made in the context of the military operation launched in response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam.
Describing the incident as an “act of profound cruelty,” the CDS recounted the horrific nature of the killings, where victims were executed with gunshots to the head in front of their families and children. “They were shot in the name of religion… which is unacceptable in the modern world,” he said. “This caused deep revulsion across society.”
General Chauhan further emphasized that India continues to face the brunt of terrorism on an unprecedented scale. “Western nations may have witnessed one or two major terror incidents, but India has suffered the most — nearly 20,000 people have lost their lives to terrorism,” he added.
His remarks underline the complexities of modern warfare and the evolving nature of threats facing the nation.
