May 15: A militant was killed during an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Nadar Lorgam area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Awantipora on Thursday.
According to a senior police official, the identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained and will be confirmed after the operation concludes.
The gunfight erupted earlier in the day after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on specific intelligence inputs about militant presence in the area.
Thursday’s encounter comes just two days after Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) operational commander, Shahid Kuttay, was gunned down along with two other militants during an operation in Shopian.
