Dehradun, May 8 — A helicopter crash in the Ganganani area of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, claimed five lives on Thursday, leaving several others critically injured. The helicopter was carrying six passengers along with the pilot when it went down in the border district.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the fatalities, adding that rescue personnel found the wreckage with the chopper’s interior severely damaged.
Relief and rescue operations were swiftly launched as soon as authorities were alerted, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration reaching the site to provide emergency aid and assist survivors.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure the injured receive the best possible care. “I have instructed the administration to extend every necessary assistance and to thoroughly investigate the incident,” he said.
