NEW DELHI, April 22:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to begin a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia today, at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. This will be his third trip to the Kingdom, following his earlier visits in 2016 and 2019.

Speaking ahead of the visit in an interview with Arab News, PM Modi highlighted the depth and potential of the India-Saudi Arabia partnership, calling it a reliable force in a turbulent world. “Our partnership holds boundless potential. At a time when global uncertainty is rising, the strength of our relationship provides much-needed stability,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister lauded Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s leadership, describing him as a visionary who has significantly shaped Saudi Arabia’s future through the transformative Vision 2030 agenda. “Every interaction with His Royal Highness has been inspiring. His strategic thinking and dedication to the well-being of his people are truly impressive,” Modi said.

On the economic front, PM Modi acknowledged the historic nature of trade between the two nations, likening it to the age-old connection carried by the monsoon winds. He emphasized that despite global economic disruptions, trade ties between India and Saudi Arabia have continued to flourish.

“Saudi Arabia remains one of India’s top trading partners. While energy, agriculture, and fertilisers remain key areas, we’re also seeing promising diversification. Indian companies are expanding their presence, and Saudi businesses are engaging more with India,” he noted.

He also pointed out the cultural and consumer linkages between the two countries. “People in Saudi Arabia have a preference for Indian rice, and in India, Saudi dates are greatly loved,” he added.

PM Modi underscored the growing momentum in bilateral investments and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen financial and strategic cooperation. He confirmed that both nations are working on a Bilateral Investment Treaty and exploring a Free Trade Agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

“Indian enterprises are contributing meaningfully to the success of Saudi Vision 2030. Similarly, Saudi investments are supporting India’s development journey. Our collaboration now spans from traditional sectors to emerging areas like the space economy and global supply chains,” he said.

Drawing parallels between Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap, PM Modi said both countries share a common vision for inclusive growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
