New Delhi, April 22:
In a significant push towards sustainable urban transport, the Delhi government on Monday launched a fresh fleet of electric buses to bolster its public transport network. The initiative, aimed at reducing pollution and improving connectivity, especially in remote areas, was unveiled by State Transport Minister Pankaj Singh.
Speaking at the launch event, Minister Singh said, “What the Prime Minister and the BJP envisioned—delivering better facilities to the people of Delhi—includes improved transport services. We’re fulfilling that commitment by introducing electric buses. These buses will also operate in far-flung areas, reaching wherever there is a need.”
Reiterating the government’s commitment to inclusive mobility, the minister also confirmed that bus rides will remain free for women, a scheme that has been widely appreciated for empowering women and encouraging the use of public transport.
The rollout is part of a larger strategy to modernize Delhi’s transport infrastructure while supporting environmental goals through the promotion of electric vehicles.
