JAMMU: Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has directed the Roads and Buildings Department to complete the construction of the new Legislative Assembly complex in Jammu within 18 months after awarding the contract.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Friday to assess the project’s progress, Rather urged the executing agency to expedite the work. The construction, which began in 2011, has faced multiple delays over the past decade.

An official spokesperson stated that the project’s detailed report on the remaining work has been submitted to IIT Jammu for review. Once the vetting process is complete, the tendering process will commence, with all formalities expected to be finalized by March 31.

Rather emphasized the importance of beginning construction immediately after the tendering process concludes to ensure timely completion of the long-pending project.
