MUMBAI, May 15: Actor Jyothika believes Hindi cinema is finally offering more layered and diverse roles to women over 40, especially with the rise of streaming platforms that are encouraging richer storytelling.

The South Indian star, who was recently seen in the Hindi web series “Dabba Cartel”, is now set to appear in the upcoming Prime Video original film “System”. The courtroom thriller also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Ashutosh Gowariker.

Speaking about the changing landscape for female actors, Jyothika said it is refreshing to witness women characters being portrayed with greater emotional complexity and realism, rather than being confined to stereotypical roles.

“There is a lot more diversity and many more grey shades being explored in women characters today, particularly for women over 40. OTT platforms have played a significant role in opening up these opportunities,” she said.

Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, “System” follows the story of a privileged prosecutor, played by Sonakshi Sinha, who joins forces with a humble stenographer, portrayed by Jyothika, to uncover long-buried injustices. Their pursuit of truth ultimately forces them to choose between power and justice.

The film is expected to blend courtroom drama with social commentary, while highlighting the evolving space for women-centric narratives in Indian entertainment.
