New Delhi: The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate intervention to ensure the safety and protection of Indian medical students studying in Russia, following a reported violent attack on four Indian students at Bashkir State Medical University.

In its letter, AIMSA expressed “deep concern and anguish” over the incident, stating that such acts not only endanger the lives and dignity of Indian students but also create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among thousands of Indian medical students pursuing education abroad. The association highlighted that Russia hosts a significant number of Indian medical aspirants, making student safety a matter of urgent national concern.

The association has appealed to the Government of India to take prompt diplomatic steps with Russian authorities to ensure justice for the affected students. It also called for the strengthening of safety mechanisms, grievance redressal frameworks, and student support systems for Indian nationals studying overseas.

AIMSA emphasized the need for proactive coordination between Indian embassies, host universities, and local law enforcement agencies to prevent such incidents in the future and to provide timely assistance to students in distress.

The letter underscores growing concerns among parents and students over safety issues faced by Indian students abroad and urges the Centre to treat the matter with priority to safeguard their well-being and educational pursuits.
