Awantipora, Kashmir:
Awantipora Police on Monday secured and preserved a centuries-old stone Hindu sculpture recovered from the River Jhelum at Larkipora in south Kashmir.
According to officials, the sculpture was found during routine activity along the riverbank. Recognising its archaeological and cultural significance, the police ensured its immediate protection and preservation.
The artefact, believed to be part of a sculptural panel from an ancient Hindu temple, appears to depict imagery associated with Lord Shiva. Preliminary observations suggest that the stone carving dates back several centuries, reflecting the region’s rich and diverse historical heritage.
