SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has moved closer to granting age relaxation for job aspirants, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approving the proposal and forwarding it to Raj Bhawan for final consent.

National Conference leader Tanvir Sadiq confirmed that the file has been cleared at the government level and formally sent for gubernatorial approval. Once approved, a formal government order is expected.

The move is seen as a major relief for thousands of candidates who became ineligible for government jobs due to repeated recruitment delays since 2019, caused by administrative restructuring, litigation, and changes in service rules. Youth groups and political parties have long demanded age relaxation to ensure candidates are not penalised for delays beyond their control.

If approved, the relaxation will likely apply across multiple recruitment categories, addressing a longstanding concern of job aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir.
