Srinagar, Dec 2: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the deteriorating condition of several key roads in the Union Territory is largely due to large-scale infrastructure projects currently underway, including widening works, four-laning and major tunnel constructions.
Responding to growing public concern over crumbling stretches on critical routes, Abdullah noted that while developmental work is progressing, interim maintenance of existing roads cannot be ignored.
“Road conditions are suffering not because work isn’t happening, but because major projects like widening, four-laning and tunnels are underway. Until the tunnels are completed, existing stretches must be properly maintained,” the Chief Minister said.
Abdullah added that he will be taking up the matter directly with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to seek expedited work from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which is responsible for maintaining several strategic routes in the region.
