The West Bengal government on Friday suspended three senior IPS officers in connection with the alleged mishandling of the case related to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, officials said.
The suspended officers include former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, former Deputy Commissioner (Central) Indira Mukherjee, and former Deputy Commissioner (North) Avishek Gupta.
According to government sources, the action was taken over allegations of dereliction of duty during the investigation into the high-profile case. The officers have also been accused of attempting to offer money to the victim’s parents and conducting media briefings without prior authorisation from the state government.
