Budgam, Sept 11: Two dedicated parcel trains carrying freshly harvested Kashmiri apples were flagged off today from Budgam Railway Station, bound for Delhi and Jammu.Officials said the move marks a major milestone for the Valley’s horticulture and logistics sectors, offering growers faster and more reliable transport than road routes, which are often hampered by weather and disruptions. The initiative is expected to cut transit time, reduce post-harvest losses, and boost market access, giving a significant push to the region’s economy. A senior railway official called it “a new chapter for Kashmir’s growers,” ensuring timely delivery and stronger integration with national supply chains.
