NEW YORK/WASHINGTON (May 7) – In response to India’s recent military strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that the hostilities would come to a swift end.
Shortly after the strikes occurred early Wednesday, Trump remarked, “We heard about it just as we were walking into the Oval Office. I guess people knew something was going to happen, based on a little bit of the past.”
Trump, reflecting on the long history of tensions between India and Pakistan, stated, “They’ve been fighting for many, many decades, and centuries, actually, if you really think about it.”
The strikes, which targeted militant positions, come amid ongoing tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations over cross-border terrorism and territorial disputes, particularly in Kashmir. Trump’s comments underline the U.S. administration’s desire to avoid any further escalation in the region.
