SRINAGAR: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, on Thursday acknowledged that the district continues to face threats from terrorism and cross-border drug smuggling, despite ongoing security efforts.

“Terror activities are not limited to Jammu; we consistently receive intelligence regarding militant movements in Baramulla, especially due to its closeness to the Line of Control (LoC),” SSP Singh stated.

He emphasized that the threat has not been entirely eliminated and that security forces remain alert. “The danger still exists. We are maintaining strict surveillance and remain committed to thwarting any attempts of violence,” he said.

According to Singh, security agencies are operating in close coordination and have intensified their counter-terrorism operations. “Our teams are working in unison with unwavering dedication to track down militants and neutralize potential threats,” he added.

On the issue of drug trafficking, the SSP said that vigilance has been significantly increased to curb the smuggling of narcotics into the region. He revealed that nearly 1,600 families in Baramulla have relatives across the LoC, with about 100 families suspected of being involved in illegal smuggling or aiding infiltration.
