SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin has admitted that quitting the Congress was a “blunder,” criticising the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) for aligning itself with the BJP and failing to deliver.

In an interview with Daily Excelsior, Taj said minor local issues—not the Congress high command—prompted his exit in 2022. “We had hoped Azad’s new party would bring change, but it failed to take off,” he said.

Taj, who quit DPAP a year ago, accused the party of drifting towards the BJP and taking a weak stand on key issues like Article 370 and J&K’s statehood. “Azad had the influence to act on statehood, but he didn’t,” he noted.

He also cited Azad’s involvement in the Modi Government’s One Nation, One Election panel as further proof of DPAP’s perceived proximity to the BJP.
